Ingredients
For the Sandwich:
- 1 loaf Cuban bread or French bread, cut into sandwich-sized pieces
- 1/2 pound roasted pork (can use leftovers or store-bought)
- 1/2 pound thinly sliced ham
- 8 slices Swiss cheese
- Dill pickles, sliced
- Yellow mustard
For Pressing:
- Butter or olive oil for brushing
- Cast iron skillet or sandwich press
Directions
Step 1
- Slice the Cuban bread or French bread horizontally and then into sandwich-sized pieces.
- On the bottom half of each piece, spread a layer of mustard.
- Layer the roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, and pickles on top of the mustard.
Step 2
- If using a grill, preheat it to medium heat - BEST OPTION!
- If using a stovetop, heat a cast iron skillet or sandwich press over medium heat.
Step 3
- Brush the outside of each sandwich with a thin layer of butter or olive oil. This will help achieve a crispy exterior.
Step 4
- Place the sandwiches on the grill or in the skillet/press.
- If using a grill, cook the sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes on each side until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted.
- If using a skillet or press, cook the sandwiches for about 4-5 minutes on each side, pressing down with a spatula or the press to flatten the sandwich.
Step 5
- Once the sandwiches are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the grill or skillet.
- Cut the sandwiches in half diagonally and serve hot.
Optional:
You can add extra layers of flavor by including roasted red peppers, thinly sliced onions, or even a touch of mayonnaise.
